🎬 Plot Summary

Azra (Amrit Kaur) is a queer Pakistani-Canadian woman pursuing an MFA in Toronto. Estranged from her conservative Muslim mother Mariam (Nimra Bucha), Azra’s world is shaken when her father, Hassan (Hamza Haq), suddenly dies during a trip to Pakistan.
Returning to Pakistan for the funeral, Azra is forced to confront her family’s history and the deep emotional rift between her and Mariam. Through vivid flashbacks spanning 30 years, we revisit:
1. 1960s Karachi: Young Mariam—played by Amrit Kaur—lives a spirited, rebellious life, full of Bollywood dreams and freedom.
2. 1980s Nova Scotia: The immigrant journey where Mariam grapples with cultural displacement and the expectations of life in Canada, while young Azra begins to come out and establish her identity .
3. 1999 Toronto: Present-day Azra navigates grief, identity, and reconciliation, channeling Bollywood—with her infamous karaoke rendition of “Mere Sapno Ki Rani”.
