Dual Timeline Structure
The narrative unfolds in two parallel timelines: 2001 and 2024.
Young Romance
In 2001 Mumbai, Krishna (Shantanu Maheshwari), a humble computer engineer from a chawl, and Vasudha (Saiee Manjrekar), an aspiring entrepreneur, fall deeply in love amidst their simple working‑class surroundings.
Tragic Incident & Jail
A violent incident leads Krishna to kill two assailants who threaten Vasudha. He is prosecuted and sentenced to nearly 23 years in prison, during which he becomes a respected inmate, running elements of prison from within.
Present Day Reunion
Upon his early release for good behavior, Krishna (now played by Ajay Devgn) is reluctant to leave confinement—not for fear of the outside world, but due to emotional wounds. Meanwhile, Vasudha (now Tabu) has moved on, married to Abhijeet (Jimmy Shergill), and lives a stable middle-class life.
